‘Uncharted Territory’: Half Say Country Headed In Right Direction Under Trump
For the first time in nearly two decades, a majority of American voters believe the United States is heading in the right direction — and it’s no coincidence this milestone arrives under the steady leadership of President Donald J. Trump in his second term.
According to a Rasmussen Reports survey conducted between May 18 and 22, 48% of voters say the country is on the “right track,” compared to 47% who believe it’s on the “wrong track.” Just 5% remain unsure. Although critics quickly seized on the fact that 48% falls just shy of a technical majority, Rasmussen silenced the naysayers with a follow-up post showing the latest rolling average reached an historic 50% — the highest in 20 years.
“In 20 years, the % of people who say the U.S. is headed in the right direction has never been higher than today,” said Mark Mitchell of Rasmussen, underscoring the magnitude of the moment.

View PlansThis dramatic upswing in public sentiment reflects the country’s rapid rebound under President Trump’s America First policies, which have reignited both economic and national optimism. The shift is even more staggering when contrasted with data from just six months ago: in November 2024, 63% said the country was on the wrong path. Today, that number has dropped to 51%, while belief in the right direction has surged from 26% to 44%, a stunning 30-point swing.

RealClearPolitics has confirmed this growing wave of optimism, further validating Rasmussen’s findings.
President Trump himself weighed in Monday on Truth Social, offering his characteristic and unapologetic assessment of the turnaround:
“Our Nation is staging one if the greatest and fastest comebacks in history. In just 4 short months, we are respected again, respected like never before, and just wait, with many Trillions of Dollars of Investment in Plants and Factories, until you see the numbers on GROWTH. This is, indeed, THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA!!!”
Meanwhile, sweeping changes across federal agencies continue to reshape the deep state from within — especially at the FBI. Under the leadership of Director Dan Bongino and Deputy Director Kash Patel, the Bureau is undergoing long-overdue reforms to restore integrity and eliminate entrenched political bias.
“The accountability process is ongoing as we move disciplined, and focused, leaders into critical positions in the field,” Bongino posted on X. “We are removing employees who have violated their oaths, and those who invited partisanship into the workplace.”
In addition to rooting out internal corruption, the FBI is updating hiring protocols, revising physical fitness standards, and enhancing defensive tactics training. These reforms are intended to prepare agents to de-escalate dangerous encounters and prevent past missteps from repeating.
“We must be held accountable, both internally to management, and externally to the people we work for, given the gravity of our responsibilities,” Bongino emphasized.

View PlansPatel, in a separate statement last week, drew attention to past abuses of power, saying the FBI “concealed investigations for then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.” His push for full transparency is a cornerstone of the administration’s efforts to restore public trust in federal law enforcement.
From renewed national pride to revitalized institutions, the numbers — and the people — are speaking loudly: under President Trump, America is rising again.
