When it comes to Democrats, the truth cuts deep—and on Wednesday, it was on full display during a heated House Homeland Security Committee hearing that exposed just how far the Left will go to silence facts they don’t want the American people to hear.

The drama unfolded as Mike Howell, a staunch advocate for border security and president of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, delivered a scathing opening statement. Howell didn’t hold back, directly calling out the Democratic Party for rhetoric and actions that have put the lives of federal immigration officers in serious danger.

And the response from the Left was as predictable as it was revealing.

As Howell highlighted Democrats’ increasingly violent rhetoric and pointed to real-world consequences—including an indicted Democrat lawmaker—Ranking Member Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) scrambled to shut him down, declaring his remarks out of bounds for the committee’s hearing on the role of non-governmental organizations in enabling illegal immigration under the Biden regime.

But Howell was just getting started.

“I especially thank you for giving me a platform to plead with members of this body on the Democrat side to stand down on their threats against the men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” Howell said.

“The violence is getting out of control, and it is fueled by the demagoguery of politicians—whether it is one of your members telling Axios that there needs to be blood to grab the attention of the press and the public, another saying civility isn’t working and to prepare for violence, or even a member of this committee being arrested for forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officials, this escalation deserves condemnation.”

Howell’s comments were rooted in verifiable fact, not partisan speculation. Axios reported earlier this month that prominent Democrats had resorted to dangerous calls for violence in a bid to ignite media coverage and political momentum, claiming “civility isn’t working.” That same week, Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver of New Jersey, also a Homeland Security Committee member, was indicted for her role in a physical confrontation with federal officers outside a detention facility. She now faces up to eight years in prison.

The facts hit too close to home for Thompson, a longtime Democrat operator known for his role in the partisan January 6 Committee. He immediately attempted to gag Howell under the guise of a procedural “point of order,” accusing him of straying from the hearing’s focus.

But Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS) wasn’t having it.

“This individual has the opportunity to summarize his opening statement and the information upon which he used to form that opening statement, so the objection is overruled,” Guest ruled.

Democrats then made a theatrical show of trying to halt Howell’s testimony with a roll call vote. But with Republicans in control of the committee, the stunt backfired. The motion was tabled by a 9–8 vote—Thompson’s objection officially dismissed.

What this moment made painfully clear is that Democrats are far more concerned with managing optics than managing the crisis at the southern border. Howell’s truthful condemnation of Democrat politicians—some of whom have resorted to violent rhetoric or faced criminal charges—exposed the party’s dangerous lurch toward extremism.

Rather than defend the indefensible, Thompson attempted to muzzle the messenger. But Howell’s words were already out, and they struck a nerve.

The fact that the Democratic Party is now actively trying to suppress whistleblowers and silence witnesses in open hearings is a warning sign for every American who believes in law, order, and accountability.

This isn’t just about border enforcement. It’s about whether one party can continue to encourage lawlessness and political violence while pretending to stand for democracy.

From a sitting Democrat facing prison for interfering with federal agents, to the Left openly discussing bloodshed as a political tactic, the truth is plain: Democrats aren’t just soft on illegal immigration—they’re increasingly hostile to the rule of law itself.

And when someone like Mike Howell dares to say it out loud, they panic.

Because when it comes to Democrats, the truth hurts.
