200 Christians Killed by Attackers Shouting 'Allahu Akbar' in Overnight Massacre
At least 200 Christians were slaughtered Friday night in Benue State, Nigeria, in what Catholic leaders are calling the single deadliest attack yet in a campaign of Islamic terror aimed at wiping out Christian communities across the region.
The victims, many of them displaced families seeking refuge in shelters, were attacked in the village of Yelewata while they slept. Witnesses say the killers stormed the area screaming “Allahu Akbar” before launching a brutal three-hour massacre that left bodies scattered and homes burned.

🔥 Burned alive. 🔪 Hacked fleeing.
👶 Babies. 👩 Mothers. ✝️ Priests.
Slaughtered for their faith.
No noise. No outrage. Just silence.
Here’s what really happened in Nigeria 🧵👇

The Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need confirmed the scale of the horror, initially reporting 100 dead before updating the toll to at least 200 lives lost. The organization said this atrocity now marks the worst massacre in the region’s history — part of a coordinated campaign by Fulani militants, a radicalized Islamic group known for its ruthless anti-Christian violence.
“Many families were locked up and burnt inside their bedrooms. So many bodies were burnt beyond recognition,” Amnesty International Nigeria confirmed.
The targeted community was composed of internally displaced Christians — men, women, and children who had already fled earlier violence. Over 500 people were sleeping in shelters when the jihadists struck.
“There is no question about who carried out the attack,” Rev. Angbianbee stated. “They were definitely Fulanis. They were shouting ‘Allahu Akbar.’”
Another priest lamented the government’s failure to intervene:
“The morning after the attack, there were plenty of police and other security, but where were they the previous evening when we needed them?”
So far, there has been no major international outcry, despite the fact that over 10,000 Nigerian Christians have been murdered by Islamic extremists from November 2022 to November 2024, according to Global Christian Relief.
Even Pope Leo XIV weighed in, condemning the violence and urging prayers for the “rural Christian communities of Benue State who have been relentless victims of violence.”
Christian leaders in Nigeria warn that this is not random — it's a religious purge. According to Aid to the Church in Need, there is growing evidence of a systematic strategy to erase Christianity from the region through militant Islamic violence and government inaction.
While the Biden-era State Department routinely issues statements on global LGBTQ+ issues and climate cooperation, it has been silent on this atrocity — just as it was with countless others during President Trump’s first term when he boldly declared the persecution of Christians abroad a priority of U.S. foreign policy.

But because the victims were Christians, and the killers were Islamic extremists, the global left yawns.
