BREAKING: White House Locked Down After National Guard Troops Shot in DC

The White House was thrust into an unexpected lockdown Wednesday after reports surfaced that two National Guard troops had been shot near downtown Washington, according to the Associated Press.

Authorities acted swiftly, securing the presidential complex as multiple law-enforcement agencies converged on the area in response to the reports of gunfire. The incident unfolded along a busy corridor just steps from the White House—an unsettling reminder of the security challenges facing the nation’s capital under constant threat.

According to the Associated Press, two National Guard members were struck by gunfire, though officials have not yet released their conditions. The wire service noted:

Emergency vehicles were seen responding to the area and at least one helicopter landed on the National Mall.

The Joint DC Task Force confirmed it was reacting to an “incident in the vicinity of the White House” shortly after the shooting was reported. The agency’s spokesperson declined to confirm whether the wounded individuals were members of the National Guard, offering no immediate details.

Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department acknowledged its response to a shooting but withheld further information as the investigation rapidly unfolded.

No suspect, motive, or indication of whether the attack was targeted or random has been released. Law enforcement closed off the surrounding streets while officers swept the area for any additional threats.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem addressed the developing situation on X, writing, “Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.” She added that her department is “working with local law enforcement.”

The shooting comes as President Donald J. Trump’s administration continues its efforts to restore law and order nationwide, a mission increasingly complicated by rising threats in major Democrat-run cities—including the nation’s capital.
