Chicago PD Ordered to Ignore Border Patrol Agents Trapped By Violent Mob
Chicago police officers who rushed to assist federal agents under siege by violent protesters were allegedly told to stand down, according to dispatch recordings and internal department messages obtained by reporters.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the shocking incident occurred Saturday on the city’s South Side, where a group of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting a routine patrol “were attacked and rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars.”
Federal officials said the agents were operating about 15 miles from ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations outside the Broadview processing center when the assault began. After the agents attempted to exit their vehicle, a woman armed with a semi-automatic weapon allegedly tried to drive into them. She was shot by officers and later taken into custody.
According to the New York Post, local police were initially preparing to back up the federal agents but were ordered to stand down by Chicago’s chief of patrol — a directive that was captured on audio and later confirmed in internal memos.
“Younger male Hispanic wearing all black … wanted for the hit-and-run, this guy fled from the scene,” a dispatcher can be heard saying in a clip shared by ExxAlerts on X. Moments later, a male voice cuts in: “Per the chief of patrol: Clear everybody out, we’re not responding over there.”
One responding officer, trapped amid chaos, replied over a wailing siren, “We’re going to clear out as soon as we can, we’re like blocked in over here, so we’re going to do the best we can to get out of here as soon as we can.”
An internal Chicago Police Department (CPD) memo obtained by Fox News corroborated the stand-down order. The message read:
“PLEASE CHIEF OF PATROL NO UNITS WILL RESPOND TO THIS AS RELATED FROM 04-Oc5-2025/12:34:44…CALLER IS 1 OF APPROX 30 ARMED PATROL AGENTS (ICE) WHO ARE BEING SURROUNDED BY A LARGE CROWD OF PEOPLE REQUESTING CPD.”

Despite this documentation, the Chicago Police Department publicly denied issuing a stand-down order. In a statement to Fox, CPD claimed its officers “did in fact respond to the shooting scene involving federal authorities on Saturday to maintain public safety and traffic control.”
“The Chicago Police Department will always respond to anyone who is being attacked or is under the threat of physical harm,” the department added. “For incidents involving federal immigration enforcement, CPD supervisors will respond to the scene and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with City law.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, appointed by President Donald J. Trump, condemned the attack and promised swift federal action.
“Today in Chicago, members of our brave law enforcement were attacked — rammed and boxed in by ten vehicles, including an attacker with a semi-automatic weapon,” Noem wrote on X. “This administration will not tolerate lawlessness or mob violence against federal officers. More resources are being sent to Chicago immediately.”
The attack underscores the deep divide between federal immigration authorities and progressive city governments that have long resisted cooperation with ICE — even when officers’ lives are on the line.
