Dem Erupts After Kari Lake Mentions ‘Gay Lover’ Allegations Against Him

Kari Lake left Democrats fuming and red-faced this week after she torched Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ) in a blistering House floor exchange over government-funded media corruption — and reminded him of a scandal he’d rather forget.

Lake, now serving as President Donald Trump’s senior adviser at the U.S. Agency for Global Media, took center stage in a heated hearing over the direction of Voice of America (VOA), a taxpayer-funded media outlet long criticized for its partisan bias and bloated budget.

Rep. Stanton attempted to derail the discussion by attacking Lake personally, mocking her for not conceding past state elections and smugly suggesting she make a third bid for Arizona governor.

Lake didn’t flinch. She turned the tables — hard.

After sarcastically replying that she wished she could "yield back the last five minutes of [her] life,” Lake hammered Stanton for ignoring the real issue: a government media apparatus with no accountability, no editorial oversight, and no protection against outright lies.

“These kinds of lies could be broadcast today on VOA,” Lake warned. “And you couldn’t pick up the phone, Rep. Stanton, and call them and say, ‘Hey, you’re putting out lies about me.’”

Then she dropped the hammer:

“I remember the stories about you where they said you had a gay lover,” Lake said bluntly, referencing a scandalous and widely debunked rumor that once circulated about Stanton. “Those kinds of lies could be repeated today on Voice of America — and you couldn’t do a thing about it.”

Democrats erupted. Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) loudly objected, attempting to cut Lake off. But Lake plowed ahead, pointing out the media double standard and the danger of allowing unregulated government-funded platforms to push unchecked disinformation — even about elected officials.

“So lies are being told on Voice of America. It’s inappropriate,” she said. “You’ve been subjected to lies that you said were lies… and if they went on Voice of America today, you’d have to sit and take it.”

Lake’s comments came as VOA faces mounting scrutiny for its financial waste and dependence on biased outside sources. Earlier this year, Lake helped lead a push to eliminate contracts with liberal wire services like AP, Reuters, and AFP — a move that’s expected to save U.S. taxpayers more than $53 million.

“We should not be paying outside news organizations to tell us what the news is,” Lake declared on X. “With a nearly billion-dollar budget, we should be producing news ourselves. And if that’s not possible, the American taxpayer should demand to know why.”

The left may not like Lake’s style, but they can’t ignore her results. She's doing exactly what President Trump brought her to Washington to do: drain the swamp — and rip the mask off the media machine doing its best to keep it running.
