Democrat Candidate Gets Destroyed In Primary After Threatening GOP Senator
A Democratic candidate in Montana saw her political career implode after leaving a profanity-laced and threatening voicemail for freshman Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) earlier this year — a message that went viral and sparked widespread outrage.
The message, left on July 1, came after Sheehy and most Senate Republicans voted to advance President Donald J. Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” a comprehensive spending package fulfilling key campaign promises focused on border security, energy independence, and economic growth.
The caller was later identified as Haley McKnight, a Democrat running for city commissioner in Helena, Montana’s capital, Fox News reported.
“Hi, this is Haley McKnight. I’m a constituent in Helena, Montana,” McKnight began in her message. “I just wanted to let you know that you are the most insufferable kind of coward and thief. You just stripped away healthcare for 17 million Americans, and I hope you’re really proud of that. I hope that one day you get pancreatic cancer, and it spreads throughout your body so fast that they can’t even treat you for it.”

Helena City, Montana Commission Candidate Haley McKnight, reportedly left this voicemail for Senator Tim Sheehy (R) telling him she hopes he gets cancer and diespic.twitter.com/MnXfcpKlRo
The roughly one-minute voicemail — described by law enforcement officials as “disturbing” — escalated rapidly. McKnight, a 30-year-old activist, launched into a series of explicit personal attacks against Sheehy, a decorated former Navy SEAL, and even his family.
“I hope you die in the street like a dog,” she continued. “One day, you’re going to live to regret this. I hope that your children never forgive you. I hope that you are infertile. I hope that you manage to never get a boner ever again. You are the worst piece of s*** I have ever, ever, ever had the misfortune of looking at … God forbid that you ever meet me on the streets because I will make you regret it. F*** you. I hope you die.”
Public backlash was swift. McKnight’s campaign imploded, and she finished a distant third in this week’s local election — earning only 20% of the vote and failing to secure one of two open city commission seats.
Her actions also cost her employment. McKnight worked for the Sage & Oats Trading Post, a Native American-owned gift shop in Helena, where owners Major and Michelle Robinson confirmed that they terminated her after learning of the voicemail.
According to the Montana Free Press, McKnight warned her employers that a national story was about to break. The Robinsons said they had less than an hour’s notice before the media storm hit.
“Even with your work family or your regular family, if you make a mistake, you learn to grow from those mistakes,” Major Robinson said. “This one’s a mistake on a national level. And it’s hard because it’s impacting not just us personally, but our business as well.”
The Robinsons described McKnight’s actions as “completely out of character” but said the decision to fire her was unavoidable due to the “threatening language” used in the voicemail.
Federal records show McKnight has donated to multiple Democratic campaigns and previously promoted her work for former President Barack Obama and Montana Democrat Steve Held.
Her outburst — and its swift consequences — serve as yet another reminder of how far-left hostility and rage toward President Trump’s allies continue to backfire politically, even in deep-blue corners of the country.
