FBI Probes Discord Group Linked to Kirk Suspect
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed Monday night that federal investigators are digging into a private online chat group tied to Tyler Robinson, the 28-year-old man accused of assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. More than 20 individuals connected to Robinson’s digital network are now under federal scrutiny.
Robinson was arrested last week after allegedly gunning down Kirk during a campus speech at Utah Valley University. Authorities say he has confessed to the killing and is being held as prosecutors prepare formal charges.
Speaking with Fox News, Patel confirmed that FBI agents seized a trove of electronics from Robinson’s Utah residence and that of his live-in partner. The evidence, Patel explained, has revealed disturbing details.
“Going back to the group chats real quick, there’s more than 20 individuals,” Patel said. “We, the FBI, are running the investigation point on the Discord chat group. There are scores of individuals that are going to be spoken to.”
Among the confiscated items were computers, laptops, gaming systems, and cell phones. Investigators have already recovered damning messages. “I won’t stylize the evidence, but I will say what was found in terms of information was a text message exchange where he, the suspect, specifically stated that he had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and he was going to do that,” Patel confirmed.

When pressed on Robinson’s motive, Patel cited the chilling words attributed to the suspect: “And when he was asked why, he said some hatred cannot be negotiated with.”
The revelation that Robinson operated within a Discord group raises serious questions about whether others may have encouraged or enabled his actions. While investigators have not yet tied chat participants directly to the shooting, Patel stressed that “every individual will be questioned.”
Digital forensic analysts point out that Discord—a platform widely used by gamers but increasingly exploited by extremists—has appeared in other criminal cases. Federal agents are expected to comb through chat logs, user accounts, and any possible financial links between group members.
“The evidence and information will come out,” Patel assured, adding that the FBI will “follow the facts” without hesitation.
Attorney General Bondi, speaking separately, confirmed that Utah prosecutors are moving quickly to bring charges. “They will indict most likely tomorrow or this week, and they will indict him for first-degree murder,” Bondi stated.
Utah law allows for capital punishment, with lethal injection as the primary method and the firing squad available as an alternative. Bondi also noted that federal prosecutors are considering whether to pursue additional charges to ensure Robinson faces the “maximum extent of the law.”
Kirk, a husband and father of two, was delivering remarks as part of TPUSA’s “American Comeback Tour” when he was fatally shot from a rooftop overlooking the campus green on September 10. The 31-year-old was rushed from the scene but later succumbed to his injuries.
His murder has reverberated throughout the conservative movement and across the country. Thousands have gathered at vigils in Utah and at TPUSA headquarters in Phoenix to honor his legacy. Members of President Donald J. Trump’s administration, congressional allies, and grassroots conservatives alike have vowed not only to seek justice but also to confront the radicalized digital echo chambers that may have fueled Robinson’s crime.
