Georgia Supreme Court Ends Fani Willis’s Final Bid To Prosecute Trump
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis just suffered her biggest defeat yet.
On Monday, the Georgia Supreme Court denied Willis’s appeal to stay on the sweeping racketeering case she launched against President Donald Trump and his allies, upholding her disqualification over what the court called a “significant appearance of impropriety.”
The 4–3 decision means Willis is officially out — and cannot continue prosecuting Trump or his co-defendants for allegedly trying to “overturn” the 2020 election in Georgia.
Trump’s Victory in Court
Trump’s attorney Steve Sadow praised the ruling, saying:
“Willis’ misconduct during the investigation and prosecution of President Trump was egregious, and she deserved nothing less than disqualification. This proper decision should bring an end to the wrongful political, lawfare persecutions of the President.”
The case is now in limbo until the Georgia Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council decides whether to appoint a replacement prosecutor — a process that could take months, if it happens at all.
Willis’s Self-Inflicted Collapse
Willis’s downfall stems from revelations that she carried on an improper romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hand-picked and paid with taxpayer money. Judges determined her conduct tainted the prosecution and disqualified her from moving forward.
This isn’t her first scandal. Earlier this year, Willis was ordered to pay $54,000 in attorney’s fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act.
Now, under a new law signed by Governor Brian Kemp, taxpayers will be required to reimburse defendants for legal expenses in cases where a prosecutor is disqualified for misconduct. The law’s sponsor, State Sen. Bradley Beach, admitted the Trump case was the driving force behind the reform.
Sadow called the measure a “major turning point in holding unethical, opportunistic, and deceitful prosecutors accountable.”
End of the Road?
While Willis maintains she “respects the courts,” her career is in free fall. What began as a headline-grabbing prosecution of a former president has now exposed a district attorney more interested in politics — and her personal life — than justice.
For President Trump, the ruling is another major legal win as he continues his comeback campaign for the White House. For Willis, it is the end of the line.
