Giuliani Recovering After ‘Serious’ Vehicle Accident: Reports
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering in a New Hampshire hospital after his vehicle was struck on a highway Sunday, leaving the 81-year-old with a fractured vertebra and multiple injuries.
Giuliani’s spokesman Michael Ragusa confirmed that the America’s Mayor was injured when his rental car was rear-ended, but noted the incident followed a moment of bravery that highlighted Giuliani’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
“Mayor Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence prior to the accident. He rendered assistance and contacted 911, remaining on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety,” Ragusa explained.
After reentering his vehicle, Giuliani’s car was hit from behind at high speed. “The accident occurred after he re-entered his vehicle, which was then hit from behind at high speed,” Ragusa said, later adding that the mayor was “recovering tremendously.”
Despite the serious injuries, Giuliani’s resilience has impressed his team. “The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said, according to The Post.

Police identified the driver who struck Giuliani as 19-year-old Lauren Kemp of Concord, New Hampshire, who was operating a Honda HR-V when she collided with Giuliani spokesman Ted Goodman, who was driving a rented Ford Bronco. Both vehicles were heavily damaged after being forced into the median. Authorities on the scene had already been responding to a domestic violence call nearby.
State Police confirmed no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Giuliani’s son Andrew expressed gratitude on social media for the outpouring of support. “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world,” he wrote. “As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!”
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson also asked Americans to “Please pray for America’s Mayor” in a post on X.
Giuliani’s long public career has included leading New York City through the September 11 terrorist attacks, serving as President Donald J. Trump’s personal attorney during his first term, and fighting for election integrity after the disputed 2020 contest. Despite legal battles and a politically motivated disbarment in New York, Giuliani remains a towering figure in American politics and law.
In December 2023, a Washington, D.C. jury handed down an unprecedented $148 million verdict against Giuliani in a defamation case brought by two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye Moss.” Giuliani has pledged to appeal the judgment, blasting it as unconstitutional and fundamentally unjust.
“The absurdity of the number merely underscores the absurdity of the entire proceeding where I’ve not been allowed to offer one single piece of evidence in defense, of which I have a lot,” Giuliani said after the trial. “So I am quite confident when this case gets before a fair tribunal, it will be reversed so quickly. That will make your head spin.”
As he continues to recover, Giuliani’s allies are highlighting not just his physical toughness, but his determination to keep fighting political and legal battles that many conservatives view as part of a broader campaign to silence Trump’s closest supporters.
