Hunter Biden Blames Ambien for Father’s Debate Meltdown Against President Trump

In a stunning admission that raises more questions than it answers, Hunter Biden claimed his father, then-President Joe Biden, was under the influence of Ambien during his disastrous June 2024 debate performance against President Donald J. Trump.

During a newly released interview with YouTube personality Andrew Callaghan, Hunter Biden tried to explain away his father’s widely criticized showing, saying aides had been giving him the prescription sleep aid, which left him looking “like a deer in the headlights.”

“I know exactly what happened in that debate,” Hunter, 55, said in the interview released on the anniversary of Biden’s exit from the 2024 race, according to the New York Post. “He flew around the world. He’s 81 years old. He’s tired. They give him Ambien to be able to sleep and he gets up on the stage and looks like a deer in the headlights.”

However, the official narrative from the Biden White House has long denied any such medical dependency. Dr. Kevin O’Connor’s February 28, 2024, report following Biden’s physical exam listed six medications, but Ambien wasn’t among them. A review of Biden’s publicly available medical records by The Post also failed to show any trace of an Ambien prescription.

This revelation now throws yet another spotlight on the legitimacy of the Biden administration’s claims over the president’s physical and cognitive health during his time in office.

Hunter Biden didn’t clarify how long his father may have been using the sleep aid, but his statement echoes a broader acknowledgment among Democrats of Biden’s deteriorating condition during the 2024 campaign. Biden’s performance in the debate against President Trump triggered widespread panic within Democratic ranks and ultimately led to his decision to withdraw from the race.

Despite having returned from a grueling diplomatic tour to Europe — including stops in France for D-Day commemorations and Italy for the G7 Summit — Biden had retreated to Camp David by June 20 to prepare for the high-stakes June 27 debate. But as Hunter bluntly stated:

“He’s tired as s**t. They’d give him Ambien to be able to sleep. He gets up on stage, and he looks like he’s a deer in the headlights.”

The conservative backlash was immediate.

“Not an insignificant question: how much Ambien was Joe Biden taking everyday as president?” asked CNN political commentator Scott Jennings on X.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), who chairs the House Oversight Committee, didn’t hold back, accusing the media and Democratic establishment of deceiving the American people:

“The Biden White House, Democrats, and their allies in the legacy media LIED. They insisted Joe Biden was ‘sharp’ and on top of his game. Now Democrats pretend the cover-up never happened,” Comer wrote in a post that featured a compilation of Democrats parroting the same narrative: Biden was fully in command.

The Democratic Party, still reeling from former Vice President Kamala Harris’ crushing defeat to President Trump in the 2024 election and the GOP's sweeping gains in Congress, now faces a crisis of credibility.

Some Democrats are even publicly acknowledging Trump’s political dominance. At the Hill Nation Summit last week, several party leaders offered rare, if grudging, praise for President Trump.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) labeled Trump “a very talented politician,” while Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, credited Trump’s foreign policy successes, particularly in the Middle East.

“Donald Trump’s a very talented politician, right?” Khanna said, seated alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and socialist assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. “I don’t agree with him as a leader. He’s a very talented politician.”

In a striking moment of honesty, Khanna added:

“We acted as if the problem was the voters. The problem was the party, and we acted with a condescension and a judgment on voters.”

The admission is a clear signal that even within Democrat ranks, the facade is cracking — and that President Trump’s decisive leadership and unapologetic America First agenda continue to reshape the political landscape.
