'I'll Gladly Eat My Words': Ex-MLB All-Star Admits Just How Wrong He Was About Trump
Of all the challenges President Donald J. Trump has faced in his second term, few have tested the strength — or the range — of his conservative base more than the recent conflict between Israel and Iran.
Trump’s decision last weekend to authorize a precision strike on Iranian nuclear facilities drew predictable outrage from Democrats, who criticize him no matter what. But the more interesting divide came from within MAGA world itself, revealing two distinct wings of the America First movement.
On one side are the isolationist nationalists, who argue that not one American dollar or drone should be sent abroad while our own borders are wide open and cities are crumbling. On the other side are anti-Iran hawks, who believe Tehran’s nuclear ambitions are a direct threat to America and must be confronted decisively — especially when our ally Israel is under fire.
Even some high-profile Trump supporters wrestled with the moment. Former MLB All-Star infielder Zack Cozart, a proud MAGA backer, voiced frustration just before the strikes.
If Trump gets us in a war I will no longer support him and I’m sure most of you know I love Trump https://t.co/h9JPV49DPy

“If Trump gets us in a war I will no longer support him and I’m sure most of you know I love Trump,” Cozart posted on June 16.
But just one week later, the tone shifted dramatically. Following a swift, successful diplomatic play by President Trump that resulted in a negotiated cease-fire between Israel and Iran, Cozart publicly walked back his criticism.
I’ll gladly eat my words for what has transpired today… lesson learned to trust the man 🇺🇸 https://t.co/lAb82BlpQe

“I’ll gladly eat my words for what has transpired today… lesson learned to trust the man,” Cozart said in a follow-up post.
That sentiment reflects what many longtime Trump supporters have learned over the years: He’s not just playing 4D chess — he’s rewriting the rules of the game. What initially looked like a step toward war became a strategic pressure campaign that stopped one.
Yet not all voices in the America First camp are fully convinced. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), one of the president’s fiercest allies in Congress, reiterated her skepticism of foreign intervention, cease-fire or not.
“Trump is not a king, he is our elected President, and I support him, even when I occasionally disagree with him,” she wrote Wednesday.
Greene emphasized the cost of endless war — both financially and morally — at a time when America is facing a $37 trillion debt and deepening domestic crises.
“I have always taken a hard stance against America going into foreign wars and regime change… To me it’s the most hypocritical thing in the world for America to do while… we never solve [our] own people’s problems,” she added.
The truth is, both wings of MAGA want the same thing: Peace through strength. Secure borders at home. No globalist entanglements. No endless wars. And no apologies for putting America first.
That’s exactly what President Trump delivered.
A surgical strike that sent a message. No boots on the ground. A cease-fire negotiated within days. And, importantly, the unmistakable reminder that Trump doesn’t blunder into wars — he prevents them.
