More Details Released On Man Who Opened Fire Near Vance Motorcade
Federal authorities have identified the suspect accused of opening fire near Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade in Washington, D.C., in what officials describe as another deeply alarming security incident targeting high-level government officials.
According to prosecutors, 45-year-old Michael Marx of Midland, Texas, exchanged gunfire with Secret Service agents Tuesday afternoon just moments before Vice President Vance’s motorcade was scheduled to pass through the area near the National Mall and Washington Monument.
Authorities say the incident unfolded around 3:40 p.m. and left an innocent juvenile bystander wounded during the shootout.
Jeanine Pirro publicly identified Marx as the suspect and confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
According to a criminal complaint, Marx allegedly shouted “f*** the White House” and repeatedly screamed “kill me! Kill me! Kill me!” while being transported by ambulance to George Washington University Hospital after being shot by Secret Service agents.
The suspect reportedly suffered gunshot wounds to the hand, left arm, and upper abdomen during the confrontation.
Court documents state that the encounter began when a plainclothes Secret Service agent allegedly observed Marx attempting to conceal a firearm near 15th Street and Madison Drive.
The agent reportedly alerted additional Secret Service personnel, who later encountered Marx near 15th Street Southwest and Independence Avenue Southwest while he was allegedly “walking along the path of” Vice President Vance’s motorcade shortly after it departed the White House.
Investigators say agents exited their vehicles and issued commands to Marx, who allegedly fled across the street alongside nearby civilians while drawing a handgun from his waistband.
According to prosecutors, once Marx reached the opposite side of the street, he allegedly turned and fired directly at Secret Service personnel.
One of the shots allegedly struck a juvenile child in the leg while the child was standing nearby with family members.
Secret Service agents immediately returned fire, striking Marx multiple times and ending the threat, according to the complaint.
The wounded child was transported to a nearby hospital, where authorities said the injuries were non-life-threatening.
Following the shooting, the White House was briefly placed on lockdown as federal agents secured the area and assessed potential additional threats.
Mathew C. Quinn confirmed that the confrontation occurred only minutes after Vice President Vance had departed the area.
In an initial statement, the Secret Service said: “U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C.”
“The incident resulted from a confrontation between an armed individual and Secret Service Police,” another statement added.
The shooting comes amid growing concerns over political violence and heightened threats targeting elected officials and national leaders.
Just over a week earlier, another suspect allegedly attempted to carry out an attack targeting President Donald Trump during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Federal prosecutors say Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, entered the Washington Hilton armed with multiple weapons while President Trump, Cabinet officials, journalists, and political figures attended the event.
During Allen’s initial court appearance, prosecutors accused him of attempting to assassinate President Trump and inflict mass casualties.

“He attempted to assassinate the president of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court. “We are asking the court to preventatively detain Mr. Allen.”
Pirro later described the incident as a direct assassination attempt against the current president.
“Cole Allen’s journey of accountability in the criminal justice system starts today,” Pirro said during a press conference following the incident.
“There will be additional charges as this investigation continues to unfold,” she added.
“But make no mistake, this was an attempted assassination of the President of the United States, with the defendant making clear what his intent was,” Pirro continued. “And that intent was to bring down as many of the high ranking Cabinet officials as he could. This is the kind of situation that we cannot tolerate.”
The latest shooting involving Vice President Vance’s motorcade is likely to intensify already growing concerns among federal officials about escalating political extremism, threats against public officials, and the increasingly dangerous security environment surrounding national leaders.
