Mother of Charlie Kirk Suspect Goes Public With Chilling Information
Prosecutors in Utah are laying out disturbing details about the man charged with assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk during a speech at Utah Valley University (UVU). Court filings and police interviews reveal that 21-year-old Tyler Robinson grew increasingly radicalized by leftist politics, gender ideology, and anti-conservative resentment in the year leading up to the attack.
A Promising Student Turned Leftist Radical
Robinson’s mother told investigators that her son had once been a scholarship student with a bright future. But over the past year, she said, he had “become more political,” openly supporting “pro-gay and trans rights.” She noted that his arguments with his father grew more heated as their political differences deepened.
Robinson had mocked Kirk’s UVU event, calling it “stupid” and insisting that Kirk “spreads too much hate,” according to his mother. Prosecutors now argue that this political hostility was the motive for murder.
Premeditated Political Violence
Court papers state that Robinson targeted Kirk “because of his political expression.” His parents identified him after recognizing their son in security camera footage from the scene.
“Robinson’s father reported that when his wife showed him the surveillance image of the suspected shooter in the news, he agreed that it looked like their son,” prosecutors wrote. Robinson allegedly admitted his guilt to his father, telling him he “couldn’t go to jail and just wanted to end it.” When pressed on motive, Robinson explained, “there is too much evil and the guy [Charlie Kirk] spreads too much hate.”
Prosecutors say Robinson meticulously planned the assassination, charging him with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. He allegedly instructed his roommate to delete incriminating texts and help hide the rifle and clothes used in the shooting. Authorities have indicated they will seek the death penalty.
A Targeted Attack on Free Speech
Police say Kirk, a 31-year-old husband and father of two, was addressing questions in UVU’s main plaza when Robinson fired from a rooftop 200 yards away. Investigators later found a Mauser .30-06 rifle wrapped in a towel in nearby woods.
Text messages revealed by Utah County District Attorney Jeff Gray show Robinson boasting to his partner, “I had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.” He told his partner he had plotted the attack for “a bit over a week.”
Lifestyle and Radicalization
Robinson, who previously attended Utah State University as a pre-engineering student and later studied at Dixie Technical College, was living with a roommate described by police as both a romantic partner and a biological male transitioning to female. Prosecutors suggest this relationship coincided with his deepening hostility toward conservatives and religious values.
Court filings include text messages in which Robinson confesses to the crime, admits discarding the murder weapon, and urges his partner to stay silent.
The investigation is still probing how Robinson was radicalized to the point of political violence. For now, prosecutors are clear: Robinson deliberately killed Kirk “because of his political expression.”
