Onetime MAGA Influencer Yiannopoulos Deported To UK After ICE Arrest

British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States after federal authorities accused him of remaining in the country beyond the period he was legally authorized to stay.

The former Breitbart News writer was returned to the United Kingdom on Friday, one day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested him at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the removal Saturday.

According to DHS, Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019 but subsequently overstayed his authorized period of admission.

An immigration judge issued a final removal order against him on July 22 after he failed to appear for an immigration hearing, a Homeland Security spokesperson said.

“He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws,” the DHS spokesperson said.

Yiannopoulos and his representatives had not publicly responded to the government’s account as of Saturday. His X account, where he has remained an active and frequently provocative commentator, had not been updated since Thursday.

The deportation brings an abrupt end to Yiannopoulos’ years of living and working in the United States, where he became a controversial figure in conservative politics before later working with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.

It also presents an unusual political irony because Yiannopoulos has publicly endorsed strict immigration enforcement.

“Zero immigration for the next 20 years. No ifs, no buts,” Yiannopoulos wrote on X last year.

Yiannopoulos rose to national prominence while working as a writer and editor for Breitbart News. His confrontational commentary on feminism, Islam, immigration, and political correctness earned him a large following and made him a frequent target of progressive activists.

His appearances at American universities routinely attracted demonstrations. Supporters portrayed him as an uncompromising defender of free expression, while critics accused him of using inflammatory rhetoric to provoke his opponents.

Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart in 2017 after previously recorded comments involving sexual relationships between adults and minors resurfaced and generated widespread condemnation.

He subsequently apologized and disclosed that he had been sexually assaulted as a minor.

Despite leaving Breitbart, Yiannopoulos remained involved in conservative and celebrity political circles.

In 2022, he briefly served as an intern for then-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

He later became involved with Ye, managing the rapper’s short-lived 2024 presidential campaign and more recently working as his spokesperson.

Ye performed in New Orleans on Friday evening, one day after immigration authorities detained Yiannopoulos at the city’s airport.

The arrest also drew a reaction from conservative activist Laura Loomer, who has publicly feuded with Yiannopoulos for years.

Loomer celebrated his detention on social media and claimed that she had previously questioned whether he was legally permitted to remain in the United States.

The removal comes as the Trump administration continues expanding immigration enforcement throughout the country.

Yiannopoulos’ case demonstrates that the administration’s enforcement policies can reach even high-profile political figures who have publicly supported President Donald Trump and advocated tougher immigration restrictions.

Federal officials say the facts were uncomplicated: Yiannopoulos entered legally, remained after his authorization expired, and failed to attend the immigration proceeding that resulted in a final removal order.

ICE arrested him Thursday and quickly executed that order, according to Breitbart News.

By Friday, Yiannopoulos had been deported and returned to his native United Kingdom.
