Police Open Fire On Florida Woman’s Dog After She Crashes Through Gate Near Mar-a-Lago

A bizarre security breach near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate escalated into a police pursuit, a smashed gate, alleged assaults on law enforcement officers, and the fatal shooting of a pit bull.

The incident began Tuesday evening when Alexa Rae Scharf, 29, allegedly drove into a closed Secret Service checkpoint near Trump’s Palm Beach property and parked beside a security-screening tent, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CBS 12.

Scharf then allegedly exited her SUV and turned on a hose, prompting a Secret Service agent to approach and ask her identity.

“I’m here for the car wash,” Scharf allegedly responded.

When the agent attempted to photograph her license plate, authorities say Scharf abruptly returned to the driver’s seat and ignored repeated orders to stop.

She allegedly drove toward the agent, forcing him to move out of the SUV’s path to avoid being struck.

Palm Beach police located the vehicle minutes later at an oceanfront estate approximately half a mile away. Officers discovered that a large entrance gate had been smashed.

Scharf was initially standing outside the SUV but allegedly climbed back into the vehicle when police arrived.

Authorities say she then reversed toward a Palm Beach police captain and another officer before maneuvering between police cruisers and speeding away.

Officers pursued Scharf until the chase reached a driveway, where she continued refusing commands to surrender, according to police.

Law enforcement placed stop sticks beneath the SUV’s tires and smashed the rear windshield and rear driver’s-side window while attempting to take her into custody.

The encounter became even more dangerous when officers opened one of the vehicle’s doors.

Scharf’s pit bull allegedly jumped over her and bit an officer who was attempting to make the arrest, Palm Beach police said.

Another officer opened fire, shooting the dog.

The wounded animal was transported to a veterinary hospital but later died from its injuries. The condition of the officer who was reportedly bitten was not immediately disclosed.

Authorities closed the surrounding area for approximately three hours while law enforcement investigated the incident and secured the scene.

Scharf, a resident of Loxahatchee, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, felony fleeing, and resisting arrest.

Jail records indicate that she was released early Friday morning after posting a $16,000 bond.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns involving President Trump and properties associated with him. Authorities, however, have not publicly suggested that Scharf intended to target either the president or Mar-a-Lago.

Based on the allegations currently available, the confrontation appears to have begun as an unusual unauthorized entry that quickly escalated after Scharf allegedly refused to comply with the Secret Service agent’s instructions.

Her claim that she believed she had arrived at a “car wash” remains one of the strangest details in the charging documents.

According to The New York Post, what began with that explanation developed into a dangerous sequence involving an allegedly threatened federal agent, a destroyed gate, a police chase, and repeated attempts by officers to stop the fleeing SUV.

The confrontation ultimately ended with Scharf under arrest and her dog dead after authorities say it attacked an officer.
