Owner Of California ‘Trump House’ Fighting For Life After Brutal Attack
Kerry Sheron, the Southern California Army veteran known locally for owning the patriotic “Trump House,” is in critical condition after a violent assault outside his Escondido home.
Police responded around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to reports of an assault in progress near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, directly beside Sheron’s well-known property.
When officers arrived, they found the 69-year-old veteran suffering from life-threatening injuries. Sheron was transported to a trauma center, where he remained in the ICU in critical condition.
Authorities said a utility worker who witnessed the attack intervened and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived. Police also said the bystander suffered injuries during the incident.
Sheron’s wife, Maria Garcia, gave a heartbreaking update as the family waited for news no family ever wants to face.
Garcia told reporters she does not expect her husband to survive.
She also said she believes the attack may have been politically motivated because of the home’s long history as a visible pro-Trump landmark.
“He tried to kill my husband, you know,” Garcia told CBS 8. “It’s terrible. I don’t know what kind of hate… what heart, the black heart.”
Sheron’s home, widely known across the San Diego area as the “Trump House,” has for years been covered with American flags, patriotic decorations and displays supporting President Donald Trump.
The property has drawn both praise and criticism because of its unapologetic political message.
Garcia suggested the flags and patriotic displays may have made her husband a target.
“They don’t like the flags. I don’t know why. I support America. My husband is [a] veteran,” she said.
Police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler, who has been charged with attempted murder. He is being held without bail at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County.
Authorities said Butler fled the scene after the assault but was quickly located and arrested.
Police have not publicly confirmed a motive.
A friend of Butler told the California Post that Butler is a Navy veteran who had been struggling with serious mental health issues.
“This is the guy that plays with Legos and Star Wars stuff,” the friend reportedly said.
According to the same friend, Butler had been taking medication for mental illness, but his condition had sharply declined.
The friend described Butler as increasingly paranoid and unstable.
“He sits in his room and thinks everyone is coming to get him,” the friend reportedly said.
The source also said Butler had been unemployed after his time in the Navy.
While investigators have not said whether politics played any role in the attack, Sheron’s home had previously drawn complaints and vandalism because of its prominent political displays.
That history has fueled immediate concern among conservatives that the attack could be another example of political hostility directed at supporters of President Trump.
California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa called for a serious and immediate response.
“Full and immediate investigation,” Issa wrote on X.
Issa also said Trump supporters are increasingly being targeted.
President Trump’s supporters are “routinely the victims of leftist violence all across the country,” Issa said.
At this point, authorities have not publicly determined whether the alleged attack was politically motivated. Mental health may also be a significant factor, based on comments from someone who knew the suspect.
Still, the case has shaken many conservatives because of who Sheron is and what his home represents.
For years, Sheron’s property stood as a bold display of patriotism, support for President Trump and pride in America. To supporters in the community, the “Trump House” was more than a decorated home. It was a statement of free expression in a state where conservative voices are often treated with open hostility.
Now that same home has become the scene of a devastating act of violence.
The utility worker who stepped in may have prevented the situation from becoming even worse, though Sheron’s condition remains dire, Fox News reported.
Butler remains behind bars as he awaits further court proceedings.
Police have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation.
For now, a 69-year-old Army veteran known for proudly flying the American flag and supporting President Trump is fighting for his life, while his family waits for answers and prays for strength.
