Pro-MAGA Georgia Lawmaker Announces Bid For MTG’s Seat

Georgia State Sen. Colton Moore officially launched his campaign this week to succeed U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress, setting up what is already shaping into one of the most closely watched special elections of 2025. Greene, a staunch ally of President Donald J. Trump, is expected to resign in early January, leaving Georgia’s deep-red 14th District without its signature conservative firebrand.

Moore, long known for clashing with establishment Republicans in Atlanta, made his announcement in a statement to Breitbart News, framing his candidacy as a continuation of the MAGA movement’s fight against the political elite. “Today I’m entering the race for Georgia’s 14th congressional district because President Trump needs a fighter in Congress who will never flinch and never sell out,” Moore declared.

He reminded voters of his early, public effort to take on Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis at a time when many Republican officials hesitated to act. “Two years ago, I was the first elected official in America to demand Fani Willis be defunded and impeached for her witch-hunt against President Trump. The RINO establishment punished me for it, kicked me out of the caucus, banned me from the House floor, and even had me arrested for showing up to do my job. Every time they hit, we hit back harder, and we won bigger,” he said.

Moore said the fight now moves to Washington, aligning his campaign directly with the priorities of President Trump’s second-term agenda. “Now we take that fight to Washington. With President Trump in the White House, we’re going to finish the job by deporting all illegals, lowering the price of gas and groceries, and stopping socialism in its tracks.”

At just 32 years old, Moore has built a political identity around challenging Republican leadership and taking hardline conservative positions, winning election to the Georgia House at age 24 and later the state Senate. His tenure has been punctuated by ongoing conflict with state GOP leaders, including his expulsion from the House in March 2024 after objecting to a resolution honoring a former state senator he called “corrupt.”

In January, Moore was physically removed from the House chamber and arrested on the order of Speaker Jon Burns after attempting to attend the governor’s State of the State address — an incident he cites as proof of his willingness to confront entrenched power.

Now he’s pitching that same no-nonsense approach to voters in northwest Georgia. “I’ve already gone toe to toe with the Georgia swamp and beat them,” Moore said. “I’m ready to do it again in Congress, every single day, with President Trump leading the charge.”

“As Georgia’s #1-ranked conservative, my campaign and record prove that I am 100% Pro-Trump, 100% Pro-Life, and 100% Pro-Gun,” he continued. “Northwest Georgia sent me to Atlanta to fight. Now I’m asking you to send me to Washington to get the job done.”

Rep. Greene announced last month that she will resign on January 5, a decision that leaves President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson facing an even narrower House majority ahead of critical government-funding deadlines. Federal funding expires January 30, and GOP leadership is expected to need every available Republican vote to avert another shutdown.

Gov. Brian Kemp is expected to call a March special election to fill the vacant seat. Greene has stated she does not intend to endorse a successor.

Her departure comes after a highly publicized clash with President Trump over her repeated calls to immediately release the Jeffrey Epstein client list and related files. The dispute escalated to the point that Trump publicly criticized Greene and revoked his endorsement in several Truth Social posts.

In announcing her resignation, Greene described her decision as an effort to spare her family and district from a divisive primary. “I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” she said in a video message.

She warned that her marginalization by powerful interests signaled a broader abandonment of grassroots conservatives. “If I am cast aside by the president and the MAGA political machine and replaced by Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Complex, foreign leaders and the elite donor class that can never, ever relate to real Americans, then many common Americans have been cast aside and replaced as well,” she added.
