rump Says He May Attend Knicks NBA Finals Game After New York’s Stunning Playoff Run
President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he may attend an upcoming NBA Finals game after the New York Knicks punched their ticket to the championship round for the first time in 27 years.
The Knicks’ return to the NBA Finals has electrified New York City, giving one of basketball’s most historic franchises a long-awaited moment on the national stage.
During a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump praised the team’s turnaround and suggested he had received multiple invitations to attend one of the games.
“They have some great players,” Trump told reporters during a White House Cabinet meeting. “I think I’ll be going to one of the games. Yeah, I was invited by numerous people.”
“The Knicks have really suffered for years,” Trump continued, to laughter in the room.
“They’re having a GREAT year. What a team! They win all their games!” he added.
Trump, a New York City native, has long been tied to the city’s sports and cultural scene. His remarks came as Knicks fans across the country celebrated a dominant postseason run that has put the franchise back in the center of the basketball world.
The Knicks are now set to face the winner of the ongoing playoff series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs. Oklahoma City currently leads that series 3-2 heading into Thursday’s matchup.
New York secured the Eastern Conference title Monday after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0, marking the team’s 11th straight playoff victory.

The Knicks’ rise comes as President Trump continues to dominate not only national politics but also the broader cultural conversation. Even a brief comment about basketball from the president quickly became part of the day’s news cycle, underscoring the influence Trump still commands across media, sports, and politics.
Earlier this week, Fox News host Bill Hemmer highlighted another major example of Trump’s political power during a segment on Sean Hannity’s program, focusing on the Texas Republican primary battle between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Hemmer noted that Paxton scored a decisive victory after receiving Trump’s endorsement, reinforcing the president’s continued grip on Republican primary politics.
“I started the report talking about what is happening with endorsements. The president has gotten involved in many races,” Hemmer began.
“Talking about governor races, how races. This is his scorecard. He’s endorsed eight governors,” Hemmer said.
“Some of these races weren’t close. Some of them had competition. We saw what happened in Louisiana. We saw what happened with Thomas Massie in Kentucky,” Hemmer added.
“Now we’re seeing it again tonight in Texas. At the governor level, Trump endorsed eight. He won eight times. He won 101 after endorsing 101 in the House,” he said.
“U.S. Senate, those endorsed eight can digits. Prior to tonight, he had won eight times,” the Fox host went on.
“Now you can take the endorsement meant from 8 to 9 endorsed and from 8 to 9 winner. Ken Paxton was outspent 9 to 1,” he said.
“Got the endorsement from Trump. Now we’ve got the setup in Talarico. Many Republicans fell,” Hemmer declared.
Paxton is now expected to face left-wing Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the November general election, setting up what could become one of the most expensive Senate races in modern political history.
“Here’s what will happen in November. In Texas, probably the most expensive Senate race that we have seen ever,” he said.
“We were looking at some of the numbers from — I guess it was Georgia in 2020. David Purdue is up against Jon Ossoff,” Hemmer continued.
“All the money combined, with all the outside groups, spends about $500 million. This primary alone between Cornyn and Paxton, they spent over $100 million. Paxton 9 to 1. Cornyn spent 9 to 1. More than $90 million compared to Paxton’s 10,” he declared.
Hemmer concluded, “With Talarico and Paxton, you could be looking at the most expensive primary ever. It would surpass what we saw in Georgia in 2020. 49% for Ken Paxton. He’s up 25 points on John Cornyn. I don’t know a lot of people who had good money on that result, but that’s what we’re seeing right now in Texas.”
Talarico became the Democratic nominee after defeating Rep. Jasmine Crockett, one of Trump’s most vocal critics in Congress, during the March primary.
Taken together, the two stories reflect the unusual reach of Trump’s presidency. From a possible appearance at a Knicks NBA Finals game to decisive influence in high-stakes Republican primaries, Trump remains a central figure in American public life.
Whether in sports, politics, or the culture wars, the president continues to command attention in a way few political leaders ever have.
