Security Breach at Hilton: Gunman Sprints Past Checkpoint Before Secret Service Neutralizes Threat
Disturbing new footage released late Saturday captures the harrowing moments a heavily armed assailant attempted to storm the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton. The video shows the suspect, identified by authorities as 31-year-old Cole Allen of Torrance, California, sprinting past security perimeters in the heart of the nation’s capital before being intercepted by law enforcement.
While the suspect managed to discharge his weapon, his attempt to infiltrate the ballroom was thwarted by the decisive action of the Secret Service. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, a law enforcement officer was struck by gunfire during the encounter. Fortunately, the officer’s ballistic armor proved effective, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
As of early Sunday morning, Allen faces serious federal charges, including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on federal officers with a dangerous weapon. Officials state that Allen was a walking arsenal, carrying a handgun, a shotgun, and multiple knives at the time of the ambush.
President Trump Commends "Brave" First Responders
While a motive remains under investigation, officials currently believe Allen acted alone. Despite the chaos, President Donald J. Trump initially signaled his desire to proceed with the event, demonstrating his trademark resilience. However, following standard security protocols, he later announced that the venue would be evacuated.
“[l]aw enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately,” the President stated.
