Trump Breaks Silence, Signs Executive Order After Pope Francis' Passing
President Donald Trump didn’t need many words to make his emotions known regarding the death of Pope Francis.
His reaction on Truth Social was brief, but unmistakably heartfelt.
Shortly after news broke on Monday, Trump shared his condolences on the platform.
“Rest in Peace Pope Francis!” he posted—a message that quickly amassed over 24,000 likes.

He continued with, “May God Bless him and all who loved him!”
Later that day, speaking with reporters, Trump elaborated further, according to Fox News.
“I just signed an executive order putting the flags of our country, all of them, all federal flags and state flags at half mast in honor of Pope Francis,” Trump said. “He was a good man, worked hard. He loved the world. And it’s an honor to do that.”
Meanwhile, the official White House account on X offered a shorter message, but shared moving photos of Pope Francis alongside the sitting president and First Lady, as well as Vice President J.D. Vance.

The Vatican confirmed the pontiff’s death Monday morning via a statement cited by CBS News.
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell. “At 7:35 this morning, The Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the Father’s house.”
He continued: “His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His church.” The statement also noted how Pope Francis lived out the Gospel with “faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalized.”
Cardinal Farrell concluded with, “With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of God, One and Triune.”
Trump wasn’t the only global figure to offer a tribute. Other world leaders quickly followed suit.
