Trump: ‘I Was Hunted by Some Very Bad People, Now I’m the Hunter’
President Donald Trump said Monday that his second term marks a dramatic shift from being politically targeted to aggressively fighting back against his opponents, declaring that he has gone from “the hunted” to “the hunter” after years of investigations and attacks from Democrats and the media.
The president made the remarks during an Oval Office event focused on maternal health initiatives and family policy reforms being rolled out by the administration.
During the event, administration officials highlighted new policies aimed at encouraging childbirth, expanding fertility options, and giving parents greater flexibility in childcare decisions.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. warned that collapsing birth rates now represent a major national crisis for the United States and other developed countries.
“We are approaching the cataclysmic rates that Japan and China are now experiencing that is threatening their economy,” Kennedy said.
“It’s a threat not only to our economy, to our national security,” he added.
Kennedy also praised President Trump for reversing what he described as years of anti-family cultural and political messaging.
“We had a series of presidents that were trying to DISCOURAGE childbirth and motherhood in this country,” Kennedy said. “We now have a president that is trying to encourage it.”
During the event, Trump announced a new fertility benefits initiative through the United States Department of Labor.
“Today, I’m pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Labor is issuing a new rule to formally create a fertility benefit option for employers that can be offered to all employees, outside of their normal health insurance plans,” Trump said.
Dr. Adams also highlighted a childcare reform package designed to place more control in the hands of parents rather than federal bureaucracies.
“Under your leadership, we’re advancing a childcare reform package that puts parents back in charge,” Adams said.
After discussing the administration’s family policy agenda, Trump pivoted toward politics and reflected on the battles that defined his first term in office.
“I was hunted by some very bad people,” Trump told the room.
“Now I’m the hunter. It’s much better when you’re the hunter,” he added.
“These are bad people, and they’ll give you no support at all, no matter how good it is,” Trump continued.
“I’ve been waiting so long for them to change, but they just keep losing, and they’re going to keep losing with their policies,” the president said.
Trump’s comments reflected his increasingly aggressive posture during his second term as investigations and legal battles that once targeted him have increasingly shifted toward former officials, political adversaries, and individuals connected to earlier investigations into his presidency.
The president was also questioned Monday about the ongoing tensions with Iran and the future of “Project Freedom,” the U.S.-led military initiative designed to secure navigation routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump revealed he is considering relaunching the operation on a much larger scale if negotiations with Tehran collapse.
“This time around the U.S. guiding ships through the Strait of Hormuz would be one small piece of what would be part of a larger military operation,” Trump said.
The president also made striking claims regarding Iran’s nuclear infrastructure following recent military operations.
“Iran told me very strongly they intend to give US the nuclear dust,” Trump said.
“But you’re going to have to take it out, because the site was so obliterated that there’s only one or two countries in the world that could get it,” he added.
“It’s so deep and got hit so hard that there’s no way they have the equipment to move it. You and China are the only two countries in the world that could take it out!”
Trump argued the destruction proved the success of recent American military strikes.
“For those people that like to say that those great pilots in those great planes — well, we just ordered 22 more of them new and improved — that those great pilots didn’t do their job. They did their job,” he said.
The president reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains a non-negotiable objective for his administration.
“Of course I have a plan — I have the best plan ever. And Iran has been defeated militarily, totally,” Trump said.
“I have a plan: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he added.
Earlier this week, Trump announced that “Project Freedom” would be temporarily paused as negotiations toward a broader agreement with Iran continue.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump cited military successes and pressure from international partners as factors behind the temporary pause.
“Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran, and additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed,” Trump wrote.
The remarks underscore how Trump’s second term continues blending aggressive foreign policy, populist domestic reforms, and direct political confrontation as the administration pushes forward on multiple fronts simultaneously.
