Trump Lashes Out at Crockett, Omar Over Remarks About Charlie Kirk

President Donald J. Trump blasted Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the Oval Office Friday, calling out their inflammatory remarks following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

The president accused both Democrats of showing open hostility toward conservatives and America itself. Trump referred to Crockett as “low-IQ” and suggested Omar should be “taken back” by Somalia, noting even the Somali president wasn’t interested.

“Jasmine, remember what I said? … She’s a very low-IQ person. If we ever had to pass an aptitude test, that’s the one who should take one because she shouldn’t even be in [Congress],” Trump told reporters. “Between her and Ilman [Omar] and the group … I suggested [to Somalia’s president] maybe he’d like to take her back, and he said, ‘I don’t want her.’”

Crockett ignited conservative outrage earlier this week after voting against a House resolution condemning political violence and honoring Kirk’s life. She defended her vote by smearing Kirk as someone who spread “ignorant, uneducated” ideas and comparing ICE enforcement actions to “slave patrols.”

Trump dismissed those attacks as disgraceful and said Crockett had “gone over the line.” He broadened his criticism to the entire Democratic Party, describing them as “radical left lunatics” pushing policies “not believable.”

“The Democrats have become radical left lunatics,” Trump warned, adding that New York City could soon elect what he described as a “communist mayor.” While he called such an outcome “sad for New York,” he predicted it would ultimately serve as “a gift to the Republican Party” by shocking voters into waking up.

Omar, meanwhile, drew fire for reposting a video accusing Kirk of “spewing racist dog whistles” and claiming she was “mortified” by his killing while still attacking his beliefs on gun rights and race relations. Her comments prompted calls from Republicans for her censure and even for investigations into her citizenship.

Omar has long been one of Trump’s chief progressive adversaries. She arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen in 2000, though critics continue to raise questions about her past marriages and the timeline of her naturalization. Trump and many Republicans have accused her of disloyalty to the U.S. and prioritizing Somali interests over American ones.

The battle with Crockett is newer but no less heated. Her refusal to honor Kirk’s memory has already cemented her standing as a far-left firebrand who openly despises conservative values.

Trump’s remarks come at a moment of heightened political tension in the wake of Kirk’s assassination. Conservatives see the tragedy as evidence of a dangerous climate of hostility toward right-leaning Americans, while Democrats urge against “politicizing” the killing. For Trump, the confrontation was an opportunity to rally his base, sharpen the contrast with progressive Democrats, and reaffirm his defense of conservative voices under attack.
