Trump Says DOGE Uncovered a ‘Horrible’ Finding: ‘What They Found Is Incredible’

On Thursday, former President Donald Trump reiterated his desire for Elon Musk to continue working with his administration for as long as he’s willing, alluding to a startling revelation by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

While speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump responded to a question about how long Musk would continue serving as a “special government employee,” according to Fox News.

“Elon is fantastic. He’s a patriot,” Trump stated.

Trump emphasized that Musk is welcome to stay “as long as he’d like,” and that he would personally prefer him to remain “as long as possible.”

“I like smart people, and he’s a smart person. I also like him, personally,” he said.

“We’re in no rush. But there will be a point at which time Elon’s going to have to leave.”

Trump highlighted the significance of DOGE’s mission, pointing to a disturbing finding earlier that day.

“They found something today that is horrible. It is horrible,” he said. “You will find out very soon. What they found is incredible.”

He declined to go into specifics when journalists asked for more information.

According to Fox News, individuals serving as “special government employees” are limited to working no more than 130 days within any 365-day span. That rule means Musk’s current term would end by May 30.

Trump mentioned that he might consider giving Musk a more permanent role, though he noted, “he also has a company to run, or a number of companies to run.”

Once Musk exits the administration, Trump said the responsibility for the efficiency initiative would fall to “the secretaries” in his Cabinet.

“I’d keep him as long as I can keep him,” Trump had said earlier in the week, according to Fox.

“He’s a very talented guy. You know, I love very smart people. He’s very smart. And he’s done a good job.”

These remarks came in response to a Politico report alleging that Musk was preparing to exit due to tensions among Trump’s advisors.

However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the report as “garbage” in a social media post.

“Elon Musk and President Trump have both publicly stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete,” she clarified.

Following the election, Trump had already indicated that DOGE would continue its work until July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
