Vance Ready To Lead But Says Trump Is In Great Shape

Vice President JD Vance reassured Americans Friday that President Donald J. Trump is in “incredibly good health,” while also affirming that he is prepared to take command should an unforeseen crisis arise.

Speaking to USA Today, Vance dismissed concerns about Trump’s age—now 79—saying the president continues to demonstrate remarkable stamina and leadership.

“The president is in incredibly good health,” Vance stated. “He’s got incredible energy. He’s the last person making phone calls at night, and he’s the first person who wakes up, and the first person making phone calls in the morning.”

When pressed about being “one heartbeat away” from the presidency, Vance was clear-eyed but confident:
“Yes, things can always happen. Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term, and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”

Last month, the White House released a medical memo from presidential physician Sean Barbabella addressing photos that raised speculation about swelling in the president’s legs and bruising on his hand. The report found the president had “chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition among people over 70.” The hand bruising, Barbabella said, was “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin,” which Trump takes as part of a cardiovascular prevention regimen.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) has embraced President Trump’s new proposal to hold a Republican National Convention before the 2026 midterms—a move that would be unprecedented in American politics.

In an interview with Fox News, Johnson revealed that Trump called him personally to pitch the idea.
“I was in Detroit yesterday morning. He called me 15 minutes before that truth and he said, ‘Mike, I’ve got a great idea.’ Let’s have it. I’m so excited about this. I said, ‘Mr. President, let’s go,’” Johnson recalled. “Because I think that would be such a great rallying point right before the midterm election for us to tout all the great successes we’ve had to enjoy that.”

Trump laid out his vision earlier this week on Truth Social, highlighting the Republican Party’s resurgence under his leadership:
“We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!!”

Johnson enthusiastically backed the idea on X, posting: “YES, Mr. President! Let’s go!!!!” with a string of American flag emojis.

With the GOP unified behind Trump’s leadership, Republicans are looking to energize their base, solidify momentum, and head into the 2026 midterms on offense—poised to expand their congressional majorities.
