Video Appears to Show Man Shot by Federal Agents Instigated Violence, Resisted Arrest in Minneapolis Incident

Newly surfaced video footage is shedding additional light on the fatal shooting involving federal Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, contradicting early claims that the man killed was a passive bystander.

The footage, shared publicly by commentator Colin Rugg, appears to show the 37-year-old man initiating the confrontation that ultimately led to the use of deadly force.

“New footage has been released from the fatal Minneapolis shooting where a 37-year-old man was shot by federal agents,” Rugg wrote on X.

“The man appeared to grab someone who had been pushed over before he was tackled to the ground by agents. The Department of Homeland Security says the man had a gun,” Rugg added.

Another video angle, reportedly filmed from the sidewalk by a woman wearing pink, also captured the moment federal agents engaged the suspect during the chaotic encounter.

The video, which has circulated across multiple social media accounts, shows one individual pushing another person to the ground, prompting immediate intervention by federal agents. A struggle followed as agents attempted to subdue two individuals. While one suspect was restrained quickly, the second individual continued to resist.

Roughly one minute into the footage, gunfire can be heard during the struggle. Moments later, agents are seen backing away as one individual remains motionless on the street.

According to NBC News, the man killed was Alex Pretti, 37, who was employed as an intensive care unit nurse.

Federal officials say the use of force occurred after agents attempted to disarm Pretti and were met with violent resistance. Speaking at a Saturday press conference, Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino said officers acted in self-defense.

“The agents attempted to disarm the individual, but he violently resisted. Fearing for his life and the safety of fellow officers, a Border Patrol agent fired defensive shots,” Bovino said, according to Fox News.

President Donald J. Trump addressed the incident in a Truth Social post, responding to a Department of Homeland Security image shared on X showing the firearm allegedly carried by Pretti.

“This is the gunman’s gun, loaded (with two additional full magazines!), and ready to go — What is that all about? Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers? The Mayor and the Governor called them off?” Trump wrote.

“It is stated that many of these Police were not allowed to do their job, that ICE had to protect themselves — Not an easy thing to do!” he added.

Trump went on to argue that the unrest surrounding the incident was being used to obscure broader misconduct by Minnesota’s political leadership.

“Much of what you’re witnessing is a COVER UP for this Theft and Fraud. The Mayor and the Governor are inciting Insurrection, with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric!” Trump wrote.

“Instead, these sanctimonious political fools should be looking for the Billions of Dollars that has been stolen from the people of Minnesota, and the United States of America. LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB! 12,000 Illegal Alien Criminals, many of them violent, have been arrested and taken out of Minnesota. If they were still there, you would see something far worse than you are witnessing today,” he continued.

The president also raised questions about prominent Democratic figures in the state.

“Why does Ilhan Omar have $34 Million Dollars in her account? And where are the Tens of Billions of Dollars that have been stolen from the once Great State of Minnesota?” Trump asked.

“We are there because of massive Monetary Fraud, with Billions of Dollars missing, and Illegal Criminals that were allowed to infiltrate the State through the Democrats’ Open Border Policy,” he said.

Trump concluded by calling for accountability and criminal prosecutions.

“We want the money back, and we want it back, NOW. Those Fraudsters who stole the money are going to jail, where they belong! This is no different than a really big Bank Robbery,” he wrote.
