A California woman who once fled the United States in fear of President Donald J. Trump’s leadership has gone viral after admitting that abandoning her country for Costa Rica was a massive mistake.

In a recent social media video, the unnamed woman confessed that she was “brainwashed” by left-wing propaganda into believing that life under President Trump would be unbearable. Now, after several years of struggling abroad, she’s desperate to return home — even if that means admitting she was wrong.

“If you’re an American who’s considering leaving the country to move somewhere else, make sure that the location you choose isn’t based off of fear,” she cautioned.

The woman, who previously lived in Los Angeles and Orange County, explained that she fled the U.S. during the height of what she described as political “panic.” Convinced that America was collapsing, she packed her bags for Costa Rica — only to realize life outside the U.S. isn’t nearly as glamorous as she imagined.

“I regret moving to Costa Rica,” she said. “It’s a beautiful country. I love the nature and wildlife. But moving to a third-world country where I don’t know the language, I don’t have any connections, resources, or opportunities — that didn’t make my life any easier.”

After facing culture shock and economic hardship, the woman admitted that she had romanticized life abroad. “I was just so scared of what’s going on in America politically,” she said. “And then I came here and made my life so much harder. And now, I’m trying to go back, and I just wish I didn’t leave in the first place.”

She added that while Costa Rica may appear idyllic in travel photos, the reality of living there — without stable income, safety nets, or English-speaking infrastructure — quickly shattered her illusions.

“Now that I’ve traveled, I’ve seen, like, real poverty,” she said. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, I wasn’t poor.’”

The self-proclaimed progressive admitted she misses the “luxury environments” she once took for granted in the United States. “It’s so weird to want to move to America right now with everything that’s going on,” she said, before acknowledging that she left behind the very privileges she once scorned.

Her story highlights a recurring theme among disillusioned progressives who once promised to flee the country during President Trump’s rise to power. Many who actually followed through have since discovered that the freedoms, opportunities, and prosperity of the U.S. are unmatched — even under the leadership they once feared.

As President Trump’s America continues to strengthen economically and diplomatically, stories like this underscore the stark contrast between liberal fantasy and conservative reality: the grass isn’t greener outside the United States — it’s just dirtier, poorer, and far less free.
