Woman Accused Of Spitting On Fmr DOJ Attorney Arrested On Assault Charge
A left-wing activist was arrested after she allegedly spat on former acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin during a live television interview on Newsmax, in what appears to be yet another example of the escalating hostility and lack of decorum among radical progressives.
Emily Gabriella Sommer, 32, inserted herself into a May 8 broadcast while Martin was speaking outside the U.S. District Courthouse in Washington, D.C. Sommer, who operates under the vulgar handle “lefttits” on X, interrupted the interview to confront Martin, President Donald Trump’s former top prosecutor for the District of Columbia.
“Who in the f— are you?” she shouted before recognizing the prosecutor. “Are you Ed Martin? You are Ed Martin,” she screamed—then spat on him.

A lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court details the incident and includes a disturbing level of premeditated contempt. Sommer, who hadn’t posted on X since 2020, quickly returned to the platform to brag about her actions, proudly identifying herself as the woman who launched the spit attack.
“ED, that was me that spit in your face today in front of your not USDC for D.C. Courthouse, that absolutely definitely spit in your face on camera. Hi, hello. A pleasure to hawk a dehydrated, pithy white foam spit into your face,” she posted.
In another deranged post, she wrote:
“I only apologize that this city left me so dehydrated and unable to get water that I couldn’t produce more to stain and drip down your face @EagleEdMartin you punk ass bitch cuckold.”
She continued with a profanity-laced tirade:
“That was meant exactly and every bit for your disgusting pig-headed swine blooded white privileged racist, misogynist, and nepotism hire. That now can’t even hold that down. LOL. Bye, enjoy that spit on your $6k lapel, your other white bitch CRACKER. I’ll find that footage and laugh for a lifetime.”

"Fuck you, Ed Martin. My name is Emily Gabriella SOMMER, and you are served," she said.https://t.co/DOaxbszXjm pic.twitter.com/p79P69Ectd
Sommer now faces a misdemeanor count of assaulting, obstructing, or hindering a government officer, which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail if convicted.
President Trump responded swiftly. In the wake of the incident and Martin’s decision to step down amid politically motivated pushback, Trump appointed Judge Jeanine Pirro, a trusted legal mind and longtime Fox News personality, to the role of interim U.S. Attorney. One of her first actions was filing the lawsuit against Sommer.
Martin’s brief tenure at the helm of the D.C. prosecutor’s office stirred controversy among the political establishment, particularly for his unapologetic defense of constitutional principles in January 6-related cases. In a conversation with The New York Post, Martin explained that many of the defendants had been wrongfully imprisoned under excessive charges later overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court.
“What I said to Senator [Thom] Tillis about that situation and others was there were lots of people that were in jail for years who were freed from jail by the bipartisan Supreme Court decision,” he noted. “They were people that had not hit a cop. These people were really wronged — and they may not be nice people.”
President Trump, addressing the situation, expressed disappointment in the lack of support Martin received from lawmakers.

View Plans“He’s a terrific person, and he wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought,” the President said, before naming Pirro as his replacement for the D.C. post. “I can only lift that little phone so many times in a day, but we have somebody else that will be great.”
Sommer’s violent outburst is the latest in a troubling trend of radical activists targeting conservative officials with hatred, threats, and violence. The silence from many on the Left has only emboldened this behavior—and America’s justice system must take firm action to restore order, civility, and respect for public servants.
