Dem Reps Make Sickening Announcement About Trump's Prison
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) jestingly mentioned that former President Donald Trump might be "visiting" soon and suggested that Republican lawmakers consider renaming a jail after him.
In response to House Republicans proposing to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after Trump, Democratic legislators introduced legislation to rename a federal jail in Florida as the "Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution." The bill, presented by Connolly along with Representatives Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and John Garamendi (D-CA), aims to rename the Miami Federal Correctional Institution.
However, the likelihood of this measure passing is low, similar to the Republican bill proposing the renaming of Dulles as the "Donald J. Trump International Airport."
The Miami Federal Correctional Institution is notable because Trump's former White House trade advisor, Peter Navarro, is serving a four-month sentence there for evading a congressional subpoena related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack investigation.
Rep. Gerry Connolly remarked, "When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump, I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison."
He added, "I see no reason to wait. I hope our Republican friends will join us in bestowing upon Donald J. Trump the only honor he truly deserves."
In a conversation with MSNBC host Jonathan Capeheart, Connolly suggested naming a federal prison near Mar-a-Lago after Trump, citing multiple alleged crimes Trump faces in various jurisdictions, including attempts to influence the 2020 election and mishandling secret documents. Garamendi also expressed support for honoring Trump in this manner.
Trump, who denies any wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty to all accusations, faces significant legal challenges, with Democrats aiming to challenge his reputation as the presumptive Republican nominee for president.
