GOP Senator Gets Ripped After Saying ‘We Are All Afraid’ Of Trump

A self-described ‘moderate’ Republican in the Senate is facing renewed criticism from supporters of former President Donald Trump after comments she made at a recent town hall stirred controversy.

Senator Lisa Murkowski shared her apprehensions this week about publicly opposing former President Trump’s policies, including his tariffs, executive actions, and federal budget cuts. According to Reuters, she expressed concern that speaking out could result in political backlash.

“We are all afraid,” Murkowski told a group of nonprofit and tribal leaders at the summit.
“It’s quite a statement. But we are in a time and a place where I certainly have not been here before,” she continued. “And I’ll tell you, I am oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice, because retaliation is real. And that’s not right.”
“I’m going to use my voice to the best of my ability,” she added. “I’ve got to figure out how I can do my best to help the many who are so anxious and are so afraid.”

The Anchorage Daily News published footage of her remarks, which were made on Monday in response to concerns raised by constituents about recent policy directions from the Trump camp.

Murkowski, one of the few Republican senators to regularly challenge Trump, has previously voted against some of his key Cabinet picks, resisted his tariffs on Canadian goods, and joined six other GOP senators in voting to convict him during his second impeachment trial—an act that nearly cost her her seat, as she narrowly beat a Trump-backed challenger in the following election.

Her remarks quickly provoked a strong response online from Trump loyalists.

“Lisa Murkowski says ‘we are all afraid’ [n]ow because of Trump… But where was she over the past 4 years when Biden was using lawfare to go after his political opponents??” wrote commentator Tim Young on X, alongside the town hall video. “Oh that’s right, she’s really a Democrat.”

Criticism escalated in replies and reposts:

“She is shameful and disgusting,” one person said.
“Does she have a primary opponent yet?” asked another.
“Sounds like she’s worried about something? Wonder what skeletons she has in her closet?” wrote a user.
“The disconnect, the lies, the exaggeration—so sick of her. She needs to be voted out,” added another.

In response to Murkowski’s claims, a Trump spokesperson offered a sharp rebuttal.

“President Trump’s only retribution is success and historic achievements for the American people,” Taylor Rogers, a Trump campaign spokesperson, told Reuters.

While political tensions simmer, Trump’s administration continues pushing forward on major policy priorities.

Just last week, Vice President JD Vance highlighted strides in a potential U.S.-India trade agreement, emphasizing that collaboration with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could help ensure a “prosperous and peaceful” future.

Speaking from Jaipur, Vance warned of “dire” outcomes for the Indo-Pacific region if U.S.-India cooperation falters.

“Critics have attacked my president, President Trump, for starting a trade war in an effort to bring back the jobs of the past, but nothing could be further from the truth,” he said, defending Trump’s trade stance. “He seeks to rebalance global trade so that America, with friends like India, can build a future worth having for all of our people together.”
“Both of our governments are hard at work on a trade agreement built on shared priorities, like creating new jobs, building durable supply chains, and achieving prosperity for our workers,” Vance added. “In our meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Modi and I made very good progress on all of those points, and we’re especially excited to formally announce that America and India have officially finalized the terms of reference for the trade negotiations.”
