Mel Gibson Has Priceless Response To Trump’s California Visit

Mel Gibson, an iconic actor and filmmaker who has long resided in the Los Angeles area, had a humorous take on President Trump’s visit to the fire-ravaged city over the weekend.
President Trump, after meeting Hurricane Helene survivors earlier in the day, traveled to California on Friday night. While there, he urged the state’s Democratic leaders to collaborate with him on recovery efforts and pledged full federal support for both disaster zones.
Upon arriving at LAX, the president surveyed the devastation caused by the Pacific Palisades fire, which scorched more than 23,000 acres. During his visit, he spoke with residents, listening to their concerns about the cleanup process and strategies for rebuilding.
At a Friday evening roundtable with state and local leaders, Trump pressed Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on the city’s rebuilding and recovery timeline.
“Six months is no good,” Trump remarked, referencing complaints about the slow pace of debris removal and reconstruction efforts. Mayor Bass responded, “And the number one thing that we are going to do immediately, and you will see this happen, is to clear out the debris. And you know we’re concerned right now over the weekend because of the potential rain, but we are going to move as fast as we can. We want you to be safe. We want you to be back in your homes immediately.”
Trump noted that some residents had offered to clear debris themselves but had been blocked by local authorities. “You should let them do it because by the time you hire contractors, it’s going to be two years. If a family… If people are willing to get a dumpster and do it themselves and clean it out, there’s not that much left. It’s all incinerated,” he said.
Following the meeting, Mayor Bass expressed gratitude to Trump on social media. “Thank you, President Trump, for coming to Los Angeles to help us rebuild,” she posted on X. “We are grateful for your partnership.”
During an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Mel Gibson, a vocal supporter of President Trump, delivered a lighthearted response to Trump’s direct approach with California’s Democratic leaders. The actor quipped, “It’s like daddy arrived and he’s taking his belt off.” He added, “So I think he’ll get some results here quickly.”
Gibson, 69, recently revealed that the deadly wildfire outbreak had completely destroyed his Malibu home. “I’m doing good. You know, it’s just a thing. But, you know, it is obviously kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson told NewsNation. Reflecting on the loss of personal items accumulated over years, he added with dry humor, “I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders. You remember George Carlin talking about your stuff?”
At the time of the fire, Gibson was in Austin, Texas, recording a podcast with Joe Rogan. “I was kind of ill at ease while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire,” he said. “I thought, I wonder if my place is still there. But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.”
Later that evening, Hannity asked the “Braveheart” star about the fire’s impact and his thoughts on the response from Democratic leaders. Hannity outlined issues with the state’s preparedness, including Los Angeles Fire Department budget cuts, empty hydrants, and a lack of preparation despite warnings of strong winds.
Gibson expressed deep concern for his neighbors, describing them as a “good bunch” who now face a challenging road ahead. “You meet people all the time who’ve lost their homes,” he said. “And you talk and commiserate and buck each other up, and everyone’s putting on a brave face. They’re a good bunch out here.”
In addition to his remarks, Gibson is set to take on a new role under the Trump administration. On January 16, President Trump announced that Gibson would join fellow Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight as “special ambassadors to Hollywood” in a cultural initiative aimed at revitalizing the industry.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”
