Michelle Obama Spotted Dining Without Barack As Divorce Speculation Flares Again
Speculation surrounding the marriage of former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama resurfaced last week after reports said the former first lady was seen dining in Beverly Hills with the couple’s two daughters while her husband was away at a speaking engagement.
The outing quickly drew attention online, with The Daily Mail focusing on Michelle Obama’s noticeably slimmer appearance. The report came after the former first lady had recently revealed a leaner look during a photo shoot with famed celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.
Some online commentators, without evidence, have speculated that Michelle Obama may have used Ozempic or another weight-loss medication. Those claims remain unverified.
According to the report, Barack Obama was not present at the Beverly Hills dinner because he was attending a speaking event in Austin, Texas.
The renewed chatter comes as the former Democratic president has publicly admitted that politics has created strain inside his household, particularly during the presidency of Donald Trump, who is now serving his second term as President of the United States.
In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Obama said his continued involvement in politics has not always sat well with Michelle.
“It does create genuine tension in our household, and it frustrates her,” Obama said. “I’m more forgiving of it, I understand why people feel that way.”
Obama also said that Democrats and anti-Trump activists have repeatedly urged him to take on a more aggressive public role against President Trump. However, he argued that his level of post-presidency political involvement has already been unusual compared with past presidents.
“No other ex-president was the main surrogate for the party for four election cycles after they left office,” he said.
The Obamas have previously pushed back against rumors that their marriage is in trouble.
Michelle Obama addressed the speculation last year during an appearance on NPR’s Wild Card with Rachel Martin, suggesting that public curiosity about their private life has gone too far.
“Even in this phase in our lives, when Barack and I say something right or wrong, it does get covered. You know, the fact that people don’t see me going out on a date with my husband sparks rumors of the end of our marriage. I mean, it’s sort of…” Michelle Obama said during a podcast episode in June.
“It’s the apocalypse. It’s like, OK, so we don’t Instagram every minute of our lives. We are 60. We’re 60, y’all. We just, you just are not gonna know what we’re doing every minute of the day, you know?” Michelle Obama added.
Michelle Obama has also spoken candidly about the limitations she felt while serving as first lady, describing the role as restrictive.
“Eight-year stint as First Lady tends to confine, to be a bit confining, right? Because, you know, the role, the job was not to just represent me, but to represent the nation. And as the first black family in that house, just like, you know, black folks feel in all the first positions that we’re the, you know, we’re carrying the torch, we’re lighting the way, which means that we’ve got to do it really, really well,” she said.
The former first lady’s public appearances without Barack Obama have continued to fuel rumors. Last year, Michelle vacationed in Mallorca with daughters Malia and Sasha, once again prompting speculation because Barack was not seen with them.

The three were photographed dining at the Lobster Club in Puerto Portals, Calvià. Barack Obama’s absence became another talking point, especially as he has also missed other high-profile public moments in recent months.
Those absences included President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Michelle Obama again sought to shut down rumors during an appearance on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, insisting that she and Barack remain committed to their marriage.
“That’s not who we are,” she insisted. “And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
She also said the couple, who have been married for 32 years, would never “quit” on their marriage.
For now, there is no confirmed evidence that the Obamas are heading for divorce. Still, Michelle Obama’s repeated solo outings, Barack Obama’s political admissions, and the couple’s efforts to publicly dismiss the speculation have kept the rumors alive.
It is also worth noting that Michelle Obama has repeatedly shown no interest in running for president and has largely distanced herself from frontline politics since leaving the White House.
