Vance Responds As Feud Between Trump, Musk Grows

Vice President JD Vance made waves Thursday with a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), as tensions between President Donald J. Trump and billionaire Elon Musk spilled into the public square. But rather than fan the flames, Vance chose humor—and loyalty—to make his position crystal clear.

In a lighthearted post featuring a photo of himself seated next to comedian and podcast host Theo Von, Vance joked, “Slow news day, what are we even going to talk about? @TheoVon.”

But the vice president didn’t stay silent for long on the escalating situation between President Trump and the former DOGE czar. In a follow-up post, he offered a strong endorsement of the president:

“President Trump has done more than any person in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads,” Vance wrote.

“I’m proud to stand beside him.”

The fallout between Musk and the president reached new heights Thursday after Musk criticized Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill as lacking the spending cuts recommended by his former DOGE team. The billionaire tech mogul even descended into conspiracy territory, falsely accusing the Trump administration of withholding Epstein-related files because they allegedly contained damaging information about the president — an accusation swiftly debunked by Epstein’s own attorney, David Schoen.

Despite Musk’s escalating attacks, President Trump appeared largely unfazed. ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reported Friday that Trump, when asked about the possibility of a reconciliation call with Musk, replied:

“[Elon Musk is] the man who has lost his mind.”

“[I'm] not particularly interested in talking to Musk although he says Musk wants to talk to [me].”

The president’s calm, measured response underscores his focus on policy — not personal drama — as he continues to push forward his signature legislative agenda.

Vance’s support wasn’t just a show of party loyalty — it was a reaffirmation of the MAGA movement’s core. As a vice president with deep populist roots, Vance has made a name for himself by combining Trump-style America First policies with sharp critiques of establishment thinking.

Earlier this week, Vance generated buzz during a black-tie event hosted by the conservative think tank American Compass. When Oren Cass introduced him as “an intellectual in the good sense of the term” and reminded the crowd of his early writing for National Review, Vance fired back in classic fashion:

“I come here and you insult me. And you call me ‘an intellectual,’ remind me that I wrote for the National Review. What an asshole this guy is!”

The audience laughed, applauding the self-deprecating humor and the subtle jab at the once-conservative, now anti-Trump publication.

In May, Vance drew praise from the right for pushing back against Chief Justice John Roberts’ assertion that the courts serve primarily as a check on the executive branch. Vance called the sentiment “profoundly wrong,” asserting that courts should show deference to the president — especially on issues like immigration.

“That’s one half of his job,” Vance said. “The other half of his job is to check the excesses of his own branch.”

As Elon Musk increasingly echoes talking points more commonly heard from MSNBC than MAGA country, Vice President JD Vance’s unwavering support of President Trump serves as a reminder of what matters: fighting for working Americans, cutting government waste, and putting America First.
